Baptism

Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments, or signs, and the "door" which gives access to the other sacraments.

Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of forgiveness of sins because it unites us with Christ, who died for our sins and rose for our justification. Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist constitute the "sacraments of initiation" by which a believer:

  • receives the remission of original and personal sin,
  • begins a new life in Christ and the Holy Spirit, and
  • is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ.

The rite of Baptism consists in immersing the candidate in water, or pouring water on the head, while pronouncing the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Requirements

Parents, you must be a member* of Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish and must complete the Baptismal Preparation class prior to your child's Baptism. Godparents are required to be members* of a Catholic Church and complete the same preparation course.

*Membership in the church requires that you are an identifiable member of the parish through your participation in parish programs, least of which is attendance at weekend Mass and a record of giving for the mission of the church through your financial support.

Baptismal Preparation Class

Baptismal preparation classes are typically held once a month. Our last Baptismal preparation class was held on Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00 PM in the Parish Office.

You must be a registered, participating member of the parish for the last six months to have your child baptized at Annunciation. To register for the next class, please call the parish office at 447-2112.
