Michael Joseph Burke, age 76, of Havelock, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Annunciation Catholic Church, Havelock. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Forest Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Burke was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in both the Vietnam and Korean wars.

He is survived by his wife, Flora Tilley Burke; a daughter, Barbara Reta of Newport; three sons, Michael Burke Jr. of Emerald Isle and Ronald Burke and Richard Burke, both of New Bern; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.


Timothy Joseph Fallon   age 69, died January 5, 2006.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.  During his assignments at Cherry Point, Fallon, a retired Marine Corps colonel, was an active member of Annunciation Catholic Parish as a member of the Knights of Columbus and a regular school volunteer.

He is survived by one daughter, Alice Fallon Merrell of Havelock; one son, Timothy J. Fallon Jr. of Ashburn, Va.; one brother, James Fallon of Cincinnati, Ohio; and four grandchildren.


Stephen Patrick McVicker age 35, died Sunday December 11th, 2005. 

He served in the US Army and was a Component repair technician at N.A.D.E.P.  He is survived by his wife, Jacie Lynette Ballard-McVicker and daughter Megan, his parents Stephen G. McVicker and Gertrude 'Trudy' E. McVicker of Havelock;  brother William McVicker and sister Karen Aileen Brown and her children Chelsea and Drew of Wilmington, NC.


William "Bill" Francis Oehl Sr., age 81, died Thursday January 5, 2006, at Craven Regional Medical Center.

Bill retired from the USMC Reserves as a Sergeant Major, was a member of the New York City Police Department Motorcycle 2 and later served as Director of Security with J.C. Penney. He was a member of the VFW Post 7315 and Fleet Reserve Branch 141. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Bill is preceded in death by his brothers Charles C III and Harold J., a sister Margaret "Peggy" and his son Glenn Clark.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Marie; five sons, William Francis Jr. and his wife Judy Lynn; Richard Edward; Dennis Gerard and his wife Maureen Ann; Keith Joseph and his wife Diane Marie and John Christopher; one daughter, Nancy Marie; and fourteen grandchildren; Susan Elizabeth and her husband David W. Nelson; also Denise Marie, Lisa Alison, Bryan Joseph, Matthew James, Douglas Doyle, Michael Keith, Katie Lynn, Dennis Glenn, Carolyn Dolores, Christopher William, Ryan Michael, Gregory Patrick and Catherine Regina and also his siblings, Robert E., Maureen Foley, Donald J. and Kathryn Casey.


Deborah K. Sonnier,  age 45; of Newport, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Carteret General Hospital.

Mrs. Sonnier is survived by her husband, Hurlin James Sonnier; a daughter, Kristen Rae Sonnier of Wilmington; a son, Joseph Michael Sonnier of Wilmington; her parents, Fredrick Charles Jones and Mary Catherine Bonarirgo, both of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Cathy Felling of Cantonment, Fla.; and a grandchild.


Joan Rose Gillotti Wojciechowski, age 67,  died Thursday May 25, 2006.
.She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, past president of the Newport Garden Club and the original owner of Creative Catering in Havelock.

She is survived by her husband, Pasquale A. Wojciechowski; two sons, Mark A. Wojciechowski of Morehead City and Paul S. Wojciechowski of Greenville; one daughter, Wendy W. Routson of Emerald Isle; one sister, Donna Jaquith of Atlanta; and six grandchildren, Leah, Abby, Nicholas, Chelsea, Patrick and Macy.


Charles William “Bill” Menninger Jr. , joined our Father in heaven on June 2, 2006.

He served in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years and retired in 1983 from Cherry Point as a Master Sergeant. His service included tours in Vietnam and Okinawa. He was  employed as a transportation specialist and passport agent at PSD, Camp Lejeune.

Bill served the local Catholic community for over 20 years as a confirmation teacher, CCD teacher, lector, and lay Eucharistic minister.

One of Bill’s passions was working with the youth, through coaching numerous soccer teams  and he was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, serving as a cub master and scout master.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Angela Menninger; two sons, Master Sergeant Charles William Menninger, III and his wife Michelle of Virginia; and Stephen C. Menninger of Greenville; a daughter, Leslie A. Wetzel and her husband Charles of Havelock; eight grandchildren, Christina, Carrie, Mandy, Tyler, Emily, Brooke, Dylan and Skyla; two brothers Gary and Tim; and his sister Dorothy.


Rocco J. Nicosia, age 85,died Tuesday, June 13, 2006

He died at Craven Regional Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris A. Nicosia. He is survived by one son, Ron Nicosia and wife Adrienne of Falls Church, Va.; one daughter, Sandra McDermott and husband Rick of Newport; and two grandsons, Andrew and Cory.

A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church, Havelock, with Father Dan Oschwald officiating. Burial  followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery


Elizabeth Baker, 86; died of Newport, died Saturday, June 16, 2006 at Carteret General Hospital.

Mrs. Baker, an Annunciation parishioner for over 30 years,  is survived by a daughter, Anna B. Cusack of Charlotte; a sister, Jean Brown of Rochester, N.Y.; and a grandson.
